Abu Dhabi Museum District A quartet of culture and architecture

The Louvre, National History Museum, Guggenheim and Zayed National Museum all have one thing in common: they are located or are being built on the artificially created Saadiyat Island in Abu Dhabi.

LOUVRE ABU DHABI

Art and architecture enthusiasts alike will find something to enjoy at the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Jean Nouvel's sensational design plays a major role in this: the star architect has distributed exhibition and other usable space across no fewer than 55 individual cubes of varying sizes. These are brought together under a gigantic steel dome with a diameter of 180 metres.

Only a few rays of sunlight penetrate the filigree perforated shell of the steel dome. This results in a sophisticated interplay of light and shadow, accompanied by the sound of lapping waves. Visitors from all over the world can look forward to enjoying art at its finest in this atmospheric setting.

GUGGENHEIM MUSEUM

The Guggenheim Abu Dhabi, located on an artificial cultural island, is one of the world's most important museums for modern and contemporary art. Designed by Frank Gehry, the building is almost completely surrounded by water and impresses with asymmetrical cones that serve as entrances and open exhibition spaces.

Covering 41,800 square metres, the museum offers spacious galleries, studio rooms, a research centre and a 350-seat theatre. Geberit concealed cisterns and the Sigma20 actuator plate have already been installed, ensuring reliable, water-efficient sanitary technology in this highly frequented cultural building.

ZAYED NATIONAL MUSEUM

The Zayed National Museum rises up on Saadiyat Island with five steel towers whose shape is reminiscent of falcon wings. Designed by Foster + Partners, the building combines cultural symbolism with technical precision: the towers function as thermal chimneys and cool the light-flooded galleries in a natural way.

Awarded an Estidama 3 Pearl rating, the museum relies on sustainable technologies, including in its sanitary facilities. Behind minimalist walls, Geberit concealed cisterns with precise dual-flush technology save water and offer reliable performance for a highly frequented attraction.

NATIONAL HISTORY MUSEUM

On Saadiyat Island, the Natural History Museum, a new building inspired by geological motifs and designed by Mecanoo, has been constructed – the largest natural history institution in the Middle East. White concrete cubes are reminiscent of rock formations, while pentagonal shapes inside refer to cell structures.

Covering 35,000 square metres, the museum displays 13.8 billion years of history, including a blue whale skeleton, the Murchison meteorite and a T. rex. The focus is on the natural history of the Arabian Peninsula. Water-saving Geberit concealed cisterns and touchless flush plates ensure resource-efficient operation in line with LEED Gold certification.
